Annabel Poate-Joyner is a Chartered Clinical & Coaching Psychologist and Associate Fellow with the British Psychological Society, and a Registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Annabel Poate-Joyner is Director and Lead Clinician of APJ Psychological Consulting, providing high-quality independent Clinical, Coaching, Occupational Health, Medico-legal and Expert Witness services to the NHS, CQC, Local Authorities, Police Forces, CPS, the courts, and to private sector services.

Annabel is on the BPS Registers of Clinical & Coaching Psychologists and Approved Psychological Practice Supervisors specialising in reflective practice.

Annabel sits on the BPS Expert Witness and the Mental Capacity Committees which have  published new BPS Professional Practice Guidelines on Capacity and Consent (BPS, May 2019).

Annabel is a Specialist Professional Advisor for Care Quality Commission (CQC), Co-Founder of the Association of Psychologists on Boards (APOB) and a Trustee of Care of Police Survivors charity (COPS). She has also published several articles in Jane's Police Review, Your Witness publications and with the Inclusive Boards charity.

Throughout her career, Annabel has worked primarily in the fields of Mental Health, with specialist expertise in Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act issues, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Learning Disability, and Vulnerable Persons. 

Since 1998, Annabel has also specialised in working with police officers and law enforcement organisations, holding several Force Psychologist posts and consultancy roles including Surrey Police, NCIS, NCA, CEOP, and Metropolitan Police Service, Royal Military Police, SOCA, INTERPOL, Dorset Police, and Expert Advisor to National Crime Agency. 

Annabel is also an experienced Coach and specialises in working with smaller policing teams and line management at all organisational levels in the policing world as well as providing executive coaching to senior public leaders, and supporting high-profile figures and whistle-blowers in crisis.
