Annabel Poate-Joyner is a Chartered Clinical & Coaching Psychologist with over 30 years of professional experience, Associate Fellow with the British Psychological Society, and a Registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Annabel sits on the BPS Expert Witness Committee and contributed to the Psychologists as Expert Witnesses Guidelines and Procedure, 4th Edition ( 2017) and Mental Capacity Committee which co-authored BPS Professional Practice Guidelines on Capacity and Consent ( May 2019).

Annabel is a Specialist Professional Advisor for Care Quality Commission (CQC), Co-Founder of the Association of Psychologists on Boards (APOB) and a Trustee of Care of Police Survivors charity (COPS). She has also published several articles in Jane's Police Review, Your Witness publications and with the Inclusive Boards charity.

Throughout her career, Annabel has worked primarily in the fields of Mental Health,  Autistic Spectrum Disorders, and Learning Disability. She has particular expertise in Mental Capacity and Best Interests issues and in assessing Vulnerable persons across the lifespan and Old Age.

Since 1998, Annabel has also specialised in working with police officers and law enforcement organisations, holding several Force Psychologist posts and consultancy roles including Surrey Police, NCIS, NCA, CEOP, and Metropolitan Police Service, Royal Military Police, SOCA, INTERPOL, Dorset Police, and is a longstanding Expert Advisor to the National Crime Agency. 

Annabel is also an experienced Executive and Wellbeing Coach and specialises in working with specialist teams and line management at all organisational levels in the policing world as well as coaching senior leaders and supporting high-profile figures and whistle-blowers in crisis.
