Annabel Poate-Joyner has been recognised as an Expert Witness for over 20 years to date, and has worked on a wide variety and numerous cases including Child & Family proceedings, Civil and Employment cases, and Criminal cases, up to and including the Royal Courts of Justice.

Annabel Poate-Joyner is regularly instructed by solicitors, both Prosecution and Defence, Local Authority Legal and/or Social Services Departments, Police forces and/or the Crown Prosecution Service, and the Public Guardian for the Court of Protection.

Annabel specialises in working on cases involving Vulnerable People who are victims and/ or alleged perpetrators of serious and complex crime such as historic and recent sexual offences and murder, and in major cases involving multiple victims and defendants. 


Annabel has developed particular expertise in Mental Capacity and Capacity to Consent issues and has carried out Mental Capacity Assessments and Best Interests Assessments in numerous Child & Family, Civil and Criminal cases  and investigations including DOLS applications.

Annabel Poate-Joyner holds the Bond Solon Expert Witness Certifiate awarded by the Law School at Cardiff University, a Member of the UK Register of Expert Witnesses and the BPS Directory of Expert Witnesses and is on the British Psychological Society Expert Witness and menatl Capacity Committees both of which have recently co-authored current BPS Guidance.
